Cardiac Imaging Research

CARDIAC IMAGING RESEARCH POSITION, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO
The UCSF Department of Radiology is inviting applications from outstanding basic scientists at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in the In Residence or Adjunct series. Rank and step will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The incumbent will work closely with clinicians and basic scientists in a multi-disciplinary environment. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in a Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering field with expertise that will support and complement existing major areas of interest in cardiovascular imaging, including: designing and implementing advanced imaging techniques using MR, CT, or nuclear medicine modalities; investigating the use of molecular imaging methodologies in the assessment of cardiovascular disease; validation of quantitative methodologies for assessing cardiac function; development of post-processing and display tools for analyzing multi-dimensional cardiovascular imaging data; and, development of image-based, patient-specific models of cardiac tissue properties and function. The Department of Radiology at UCSF has a broad range of state-of-the-art imaging equipment, dry lab and wet lab resources, and support infrastructure for candidates who wish to pursue innovative research in cardiovascular imaging. In accordance with UCSF policies, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and to secure extramural funding. The candidate is also expected to actively engage in teaching as well as university and public service, consistent with university policy.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Imaging

The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging is seeking two faculty members for our Cardiac and Pulmonary Imaging Section. The ideal candidates will be appointed at the level of Assistant, Associate or Professor in the In- Residence, Clinical X or Clinical series, depending upon qualifications.

Clinical responsibilities will be in the area of chest and cardiac radiology, thoracic and/or cardiac computed tomography and MRI. The candidates will supervise and teach residents, fellows, and medical students in cardiac and pulmonary imaging, diagnostic radiology, and will be involved in the departmental clinical research program. Responsibilities will include clinical duties at the UCSF Parnassus and Mt. Zion campuses, as well as all affiliated institutions, including SF General, and the SF VAMC.

This position requires teaching proficiency, clinical expertise in general diagnostic radiology, chest radiology, and fellowship training in chest radiology. In addition, the candidate must be Board eligible or certified in diagnostic radiology and be licensed to practice medicine in California.

Chief, Pediatric Radiology

MR Physicist Research Position (SF VA Medical Center)

The University of California, San Francisco seeks an MR Physicist for brain spectroscopy and imaging research in the Center for Imaging of Neurodegenerative Diseases (CIND) in the Department of Radiology at the SF VA Medical Center. The candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Professor level in the Adjunct series.

The position's focus Is on the development of new MR spectroscopic acquisition methods for detection of brain metabolites at 4 Tesla and the development of novel spectral analysistechniques. The successful applicant will be expected to further advance specialized methodsfor detectlon of J-coupled metabolites and is expected to be familiar with state-of-the-art RFpulse design and spectroscopic analysis methods for clinical research at high magnetic fields.Furthermore, the candidate should show keen Interest In the development of new, high fieldMRI acquisition methods and novel MRI reconstruction and analysis methods. These methodswill be integrated by the successful candidate into large clinlcal studies, including multi-sitestudies of epilepsy, normal agelng, dementias, substance abuse, and otherneurodegeneratlvediseases. Musculoskeletal and Quantitative Imaging Research Group

The Musculoskeletal and Quantitative Imaging Research Group (MQIR) in the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging seeks to hire two faculty members (depending on funding) in the in-residence or adjunct series at the rank of Assistant Professor to develop and participate in quantitative imaging research programs in osteoporosis, osteo-arthritis, muscle and degenerative disc disease and to teach graduate, professional, and postdoctoral students. The specific focus areas are: 1)Molecular and functional imaging, of small animals, especially focused on animal models of musculo-skeletal degeneration, pathologies and regeneration; and 2) Development of novel translational high field magnetic resonance imaging and image processing methodologies, with primary focus on the Orthopedic Imaging.
The unique opportunities for interactions between basic and clinical scientists that exist at UCSF has enabled advances in the development of quantitative imaging strategies, as well as image processing methodologies to the study of bone, cartilage, muscle, meniscus and disc tissue. With access to state of the art imaging technologies such as high field whole body magnetic resonance imaging, micro-computed tomography, peripheral high resolution computed tomography, Fourier transform infrared imaging, faculty are expected to develop independent research programs.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree or equivalent in biological, engineering or physical sciences, with a major focus on applications to quantitative imaging of the musculo-skeletal system. The applicants should have a track record of independent funding and publications in the areas of musculoskeletal imaging, commensurate with the rank.

Ultrasound at SF VA Medical Center

The Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of California, San Francisco Departments of Radiology are seeking a radiologist in the Ultrasound Section of Radiology at the SF VA Medical Center. The position is a dual appointment with VA and UCSF. The position includes oversight of the ultrasound section and participation in other cross-sectional imaging. The selectee will be appointed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the In Residence, Clinical X or Clinical series. Applicants should be board-certified or board eligible in Diagnostic Radiology and should have specific cross-sectional imaging training. Responsibilities include clinical service, development of a research program and teaching radiology trainees and medical students. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Equipment includes 4 state-of-the-art Acuson S2000 scanners with 3D and 4D capability as well as tissue harmonic imaging and elasticity imaging, two GE Volume 64-slice CT scanner, Philips SPECT/CT, GE PET/CT, Siemens Symphony 1.5T MRI, and an Avanto 1.5T MRI unit for cardiovascular imaging as well as a fully equipped 3D Imaging Laboratory with multiple advanced workstations. 3T MRI installation will occur in 2010.
