The study is a tightly knit collaborative effort of several groups from various departments at the University of California San Francisco, School of Medicine. The study involves neonatologists (pediatricians specializing in taking care of newborns), neurologists, physicists, psychologists, radiologists, research nurses, statisticians, study assistants, and technicians. The research team is lead by the principal investigator, Dr. A. James Barkovich, Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Neurology and Neurosurgery, and is funded by a US government grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
