The Margulis Society: Alumni and Friends Support Network

hoghooghiDonna Hoghooghi, MD, a 2003 graduate of the residency program, is the new president of the Margulis Society. She takes the reins from Dr. Richard Sollitto, who in his eight years as president, devoted countless hours to furthering the Societys mission of supporting radiology resident and fellow training at UCSF.

"The Margulis Society sustains an important tradition at UCSF and I am committed to making sure that future generations of residents benefits from its support, as I did. My major goal is to encourage alumni, especially recent graduates, to become active members of the Margulis Society", says Hoghooghi. "That is the best way to make sure that we can continue to fund AFIP training and research grants, to improve the Stone Library, and to strengthen our network for career opportunities. Membership donations are crucial to funding these activities."

Hoghooghi received her MD in 1998 from UCSF, served as chief resident in 2002-2003, and following her residency, completed a neuroradiology fellowship at UCSF. In addition to serving as president of the Margulis Society, Hoghooghi is an officer in the Medical Alumni Association of the School of Medicine at UCSF. She works as a radiologist at California Advanced Imaging in Marin, CA.

Thank You To All Who Participated in The Margulis Society's Homecoming Weekend!

The Margulis Society Gala, held at the Olympic Club in downtown San Francisco, was a huge success, bringing together many alumni from past years, as well as faculty and current residents and fellows. A wonderful time was had by all who attended the Gala. Features of the event were a live auction benefiting radiology resident and fellow training at UCSF; an exciting grand raffle featuring hotel prizes; a fabulous buffet dinner; and dancing. The opportunity to reconnect with past trainees was a highlight of the evening for all who attended.

The tour of Mission Bay/China Basin was enjoyed by those who attended and featured talks by Sarah Nelson, PhD, Director of the Margaret Subeck Laboratory; Pratik Mukherjee, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Radiology, Section of Neuroradiology; Sharmila Majumdar, PhD, Director of the Musculoskeletal and Quantitative Imaging Research Laboratory; and Randall Hawkins, MD, PhD, Chief of Nuclear Medicine. The "behind-the-scenes" portion of the tour provided the opportunity to see new equipment installations at China Basin.

A brunch honoring the donors who contributed to the Department's Stone Library renovation was the finale of homecoming weekend. The plaque honoring donors was on display and will be installed in Stone Libary soon.
