Chris Flowers joined the faculty as Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at UCSF in November 2007, folowing a long career in breast imaging in the United Kingdom. He graduated with a medical degree from the University of London (Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine), and followed this with residency in Medical Specialities at Hull University Hospitals before Radiology Residency and Fellowship in Mammography at the Nottingham University Hospitals.
He was appointed Lead Consultant Radiologist with Breast Test Wales, Swansea in 1991, and provided breast imaging services to a number of regional hospitals. He was responsible for the combining of symptomatic (diagnostic) breast services into the cancer center, and was one of the leaders of the multi-disciplinary teams, as well as chair of the South West Wales Cancer Network. He remains in an honorary post as Consultant Radiologist to Velindre NHS Trust in Wales.
A recognized leader in the field of digital mammography and breast biopsy, he also developed the Royal College of Radiologists Breast Group website, and was appointed to the National Institute of Cinical Excellence (NICE) as a specialist advisor for the Royal College of Radiologists on breast interventional procedures.
His interests include research in digital mammography, breast imaging workstations, breast biopsy, MR and optical imaging to determine response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Also novel teaching methods using 'NEW MEDIA' e.g. podcasts on digital mammography along with web 2.0 type applications
He also manages breast imaging journal news feeds for syndication to websites - such as that on the RCR Breast Group website
