UCSF MRI Safety Staffing Policy

MRI procedures performed at UCSF will be conducted in accordance with established protocols and in reference to the American College of Radiology Guidelines.  Appropriate precautions will be followed to ensure safety of all patients, personnel and equipment.  When routinely scheduled patients or research subjects are present in Zones II through IV,  UCSF recognizes it is important to have a minimum number of MR personnel in Zones III through IV that can assure safe operation and access control.

UCSF strives to maintain a staffing goal: minimum of one MR technologist per MRI system/scanner plus one other individual with the designation of MR Personnel in the immediate Zone II through Zone IV MR environment whenever patients are in the MR environment. During this time, the other MR Personnel must be able to directly communicate with technologists at all times.
