Ronald Zagoria, MD, FSAR, Receives Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) Gold Medal

Ronald Zagoria, MD, award the Gold Medal by the Society of Abdominal Radiology The UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging congratulates Ronald Zagoria, MD on his receipt of a 2022 Gold Medal from the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR). Dr. Zagoria is a professor of Clinical Radiology, chief of Abdominal Imaging and vice chair of Clinical Affairs at UCSF in Radiology.

The SAR Gold Medal honors lifetime achievements of society members who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to the field of abdominal radiology. Dr. Zagoria specializes in diagnostic abdominal imaging with special expertise in image-guided tumor ablation for kidney cancer. His interests in patient care include urologic oncology, urolithiasis, and infertility. During his career, Dr. Zagoria has been appointed principal and co-principal investigator on several research grant projects. He has delivered over 300 invited lectures and presentations, and he has written over 300 publications, which include textbooks, book chapters, journal articles, and abstracts.

Dr. Zagoria is a fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR), the American Society of Emergency Radiology, and the European Society of Uroradiology (ESUR). He is editor-in-chief of Emergency Radiology and formerly served on and chaired the Residency Review Committee for Diagnostic Radiology for the ACGME. Dr. Zagoria was the President of the Society of Uroradiology and of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology. He was the first Vice President of the RSNA.

Dr. Zagoria earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He then completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in abdominal imaging and interventional radiology at Wake Forest University. Prior to joining UCSF in 2013, Dr. Zagoria served as section head of Abdominal Radiology, as well as executive vice chair, and interim chair for the Division of Radiological Sciences at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
