Recognizing our UCSF Radiology Medical Imaging Team's Excellence This Fall

I want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank everyone within the UCSF Health Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Department for the care you provide to our patients and each other!  In recognition of our amazing team, banners and posters will be visible on campus to represent National Radiologic Technologist Week so that everyone can join us in celebrating our dedication and achievements.

At UCSF Radiology, we celebrate our entire team during this time. Each and every person within the department plays an important role in keeping this core clinical service and our organization at the forefront of medicine. Our schedulers, clerks, technologists, nurses, hospital assistants, imaging library staff, researchers and administrative professionals all play an important role in making sure our department is consistently the front line of change in medical imaging and treatment all while providing top notch care to our patients.

As we commend our outstanding team this fall, I wanted to share with you what has been said about them by their professional organizations as we celebrate with them this week:

Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Week

Nuclear Medicine Week was October 6-12. This year's theme was "Making the Invisible…. Visible." Nuclear Medicine Week allows physicians, technologists, scientists, and others involved in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging to take a proactive role in the advancement of the field. From advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment to recent breakthroughs in Alzheimer's and dementia research, nuclear medicine is improving lives – and it is up to medical professionals to educate others on these major healthcare innovations.  We want to thank and recognize the nuclear technologists that provide care to our patients at UCSF!

Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month

Every October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month. The goal of Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month is to increase the public's knowledge about medical ultrasound and its many uses in health care. Although much of the general public is familiar with the use of medical ultrasound during pregnancy, many people are unaware that ultrasound can be used throughout all stages of life and for various medical indications. Thanks to this month-long campaign, we are able to celebrate the extraordinary contribution medical sonography provides to modern medicine and also to increase the public's knowledge about the benefits of sonography.  The 2019 theme for Medical Ultrasound Awareness is: Sonography Strong.

National Radiologic Technology Week

This year, National Radiologic Technology Week is held November 3-9, 2019. It is celebrated annually to recognize the vital work of Radiologic Technologists across the nation. The celebration takes place each year during the week that includes November 8 to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895. UCSF's dedicated radiologic technologists are the backbone of our department. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and attention to detail help maintain our status as a cutting edge leader in the field of radiology and biomedical imaging. This celebration calls attention to the important role technologists and other radiologic professionals play in patient care, health care safety, and medical research. The theme for this year is: Waves of the Future.

All three of these areas highlight the expertise brought to the UCSF Hospitals by our UCSF Medical Imaging professionals across all sites who provide the highest level of skill, focus and expertise in patient safety and quality imaging. Within our department innovation is our core competence which has helped our team lead important advancements and become the front line of change within Radiology for over a century. As with everything we do our continued push of the boundaries of Medical Imaging and treatment will continue to lead us forward through the next year and beyond.

Congratulations to  the entire Radiology Team.

HAPPY RAD TECH WEEK!
