#WIMMonth 2019: Celebrating Women in Medicine

The theme for this year's Women in Medicine Month (#WIMmonth) is "Women in Medicine: Trailblazers, Advocates, Leaders." This annual initiative, sponsored by the American Medical Association (AMA), gives the UC San Francisco Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging a chance each September to honor women's contributions to medicine and to the department in patient care, research and education.

Women in Medicine Month is also a time to highlight advocacy related to women physicians and also health issues that impact women patients. Across the United States, radiology is the ninth largest medical specialty, but according to a 2014 report published in Radiology, it ranks 17th in female representation and 20th in underrepresented in medicine. The UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Diversity Committee has made this one of the focuses of its efforts.

Throughout the month of September, follow us on Twitter (@UCSFImaging) and Facebook as we pay special recognition to the amazing work done by women at UCSF Radiology. We hope to shine a spotlight on the extraordinary researchers, faculty and scientists who make the department great.
